About this course
This course leads to the BCS Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing examination (which is completed at the end of the course) and provides test analysts and test managers with highly practical knowledge and techniques.
This is a three day course with a combination of lectures, workshops, exercises and sample exam questions. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of the material discussed. Delegates will leave with testing skills and techniques which can be applied in the workplace.
At course completion
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- Define testing approaches in different life cycles and domains
- Understand how to apply review techniques effectively
- Perform risk analysis techniques
- Address test management areas of planning, monitoring and controlling
- Select and apply the most appropriate test analysis techniques
Examination
- The examination consists of a one hour exam with 25 scenario-based multiple choice questions.
- It will be a ‘closed book’ examination i.e. no notes or books will be allowed into the examination room.
- Duration of 60 minutes (or 75 minutes for candidates taking examinations that are not in their native language)
- No study material or electronic devices (including mobile phones) mat be used during the examination.
- Candidates are allowed to use simple non-programmable calculators (to be provided by the candidate).
- An official translation of terms (not their definitions) from the ISTQB Glossary to the local language is allowed.
- Candidates taking exams that are not in their native language may use a paper-based translation dictionary.
- The pass mark is 60% (15 out of 25).

BCS Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing Sample Exam
A thorough knowledge of the Foundation Syllabus is essential. The recommended source is the BCS textbook ‘Software Testing – A BCS Foundation’ by Hambling et al, or recent attendance of the Foundation course (STF-2). Examination candidates must hold the BCS Foundation Certificate in Software Testing.
Pre-study: Delegates are strongly recommended to revise the Software Testing Foundation materials before attending this course.
Please Note: Please ensure you take your Software Testing Foundation Certificate number or software testing foundation certificate with you to the course, as this information is required by the examining board when registering for the exam.
